String Quartet No.2 in A, Op.13

30 min.

composed by Mendelssohn

String Quartet No.2 in A major Op.13 was composed in 1827 when Mendelssohn was 18 years old. It begins and ends using the same phrase which is Twelve Lieder Op.9-1, “Frage, Ist es wahr? (Is it true?)”. It is said that Mendelssohn was fallen in love at that time. The theme of the song is the key to understand this emotional and beautiful music. Before playing this quartet, please try Op.9-1 arranged for String Quartet. It consists of four movements,
I. Adagio, Allegro vivace,
II. Adagio non lento,
III. Intermezzo, Allegro con moto,
