Opera “Rodrigo” HWV 5 was performed in Firenze, Italy, in 1707 (The composer was 22 years old). Rodrigo,was the last Visigothic king of Hispania. The libretto was based on “II duello d’amore e di vendetta” by Francesco Silvani (1620-1685). This overture was originnaly written for Violin I/II, Oboe I/II, Viola, and Bass continuo (Violoncello & Bassoon). It is energetic and flooded with happiness.
