Five Petits Duos, Op.56

composed by Cui

Its composition of the musical instruments would be relatively unique, for it’s performed by Flute, Violin, and Piano. Most music deals with pleasurable subject such as festival, dancing or waterfront, except IV. Nocturne.

3 min.

IV. Nocturne

This Nocturne, the 4th movement, conveys to one sense of deep sorrow and tenderness. In answer to Violin which sadly sings loneliness, Flute echoes like a bird singing. Two parts gradually comes together, and finish the music in sympathy. Obbligato for Flute part is sophisticated. Music for Violin part and Flute part would be convenient to play recognizing relationship between two parts.
