Ode is a form of lyrical verse. This music was composed on Handel’s second visit to London and was performed on Queen Anne’s birthday, February 6th in 1713.
The original is duet for Soprano and Alto with Oboe obligato. All players could enjoy playing beautiful melodies. In the arrangement for String Quartet, Oboe, Soprano, Alto correspond to Violin I, Violin II, Viola, respectively. In the arrangement for Wood Quartet, Soprano and Alto correspond to Flute and Clarinet, respectively.
