2-Part Inventions, BWV 772-786
21 min.
Two-Part Inventions, BWV 772–786, were written by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) for keyboard students to help them develop their playing technique and improve their skills in musical invention and composition. However, these pieces are also excellent as music themselves.
To make them enjoyable and useful for string players as well, they have been arranged for Violin and Cello duet and for Violin and Viola duet. The arrangement is based on the edition edited by Rudolf Steglich, using Bach’s 1723 fair copy and other manuscript sources (Henle, 1955). The original arrangement was made in 2007. Later, based on experience from actual performances, it was revised in 2025. The sheet music includes 15 pieces, but for the Violin and Viola version, each piece is also available separately.
